Fire-Rated Roller Shutter Doors in Pretoria

• Fail-safe gravity descent, no power needed
• Fire panel integration and drop testing

A fire-rated shutter is a life safety product and a compliance item, not a heavier security door. It is certified to hold a fire compartment for a stated period, and that certification only means anything if the assembly is installed correctly and maintained.

Where fire-rated roller shutter doors are required in Pretoria

• Service corridors and back-of-house openings at Menlyn and the eastern retail centres, where a compartment line crosses an opening.
• Plant rooms, switch rooms and generator rooms in the CBD and Hatfield office towers.
• Basement parking where rated separation is required between levels or from the core.
• Manufacturing and warehousing at Rosslyn, Silverton and Waltloo where a compartment wall crosses a goods opening.

What makes a fire-rated roller shutter door rated

The rating belongs to the whole assembly, not the curtain. Guides, box, fixings, the release mechanism and the installation method are all part of what was tested. Substituting a component or fixing into an unsuitable substrate voids it. That is why we will not adapt a standard shutter and call it rated, and why the fixing detail is part of the quotation.

Fire-rated roller shutter door release and integration

Rated shutters close on a signal, typically from the fire detection system or a fusible link. We commission the release and test it, and where the door ties into an existing panel on a Pretoria building we coordinate with whoever maintains that system.

Fire-rated roller shutter door certification

You receive the certification for the assembly and a commissioning record. Keep both. After an incident the question is always whether the door was rated and whether it was maintained.

Maintaining fire-rated roller shutter doors

A rated door that has not been tested is rated on paper only. We inspect the assembly and the release on a schedule, report anything that would compromise the rating, and are clear when something must be corrected rather than budgeted for.
